Wazzzzzz up! Took the jeep out for a run I was hauling ass, started to slow down; I was coming up to my street. When all of the sudden the temp gage read 260 super F$#@%!N hot!!! Made it to my drive way lifted the hood water was Gushing from the middle of the engine block just under the intake got a closer look and notice I blow the middle steel freeze plug every thing look good thou, first time this has happen was woundering if I should switch to brass plugs I heard they are better in the long run, But I was wondering what is the best type of sealer for freeze plugs?
I've seen no evidence that brass "CORE" plugs out last steel "CORE" plugs ("Soft" plugs is also acceptable), I don't know how they got the names like "freeze" plugs or "expansion" plugs!?????, when the water in an engine freeze's it expands in ALL directions equally!, I've seen the side of MANY! blocks with the side busted right off and the core plugs are still in tact in their holes!
For sealant I just use a smear of Permatex "Aviation Cement" in the hole and on the plug, if the hole is a little rotten some "JB Weld" will do the trick.

And core plug is the perfect terminology. They are there because how the block is cast. Brass is not the answer in my book...I have seen too many cracked brass freeze plugs. Stay with steel and just change ur antifreeze properly.
