400 ft/lbs of torque on 87 octane?
400 ft/lbs of torque on 87 octane? My brother was going to go LS1 swap in his 04TJ , but now really liking the idea of a stroker instead, his question is 400 ft/lbs of torque on 87 octane possible ?

That's a tough number to hit with high compression and 93 octane. Possible maybe with nitrous.

Not happening. A N/A stroker that can run 87 octane fuel might reach ~320lbft at best. To reach 400lbft you'd need a power adder, and only a complete fool would run 87 octane fuel with a power adder.

LS Family = Gen. 3, 5.7L, Aluminum Block, Car Engines
Performance Specifications
Compression Ratio 10.2:1
Horsepower Rating 305-350 hp
Torque Rating 335-365 ft./lbs
Ls1’s don’t make 400ft#s either. But a stroker with 2 less cylinders can be built close to those numbers above. Granted the later gen ls versions made more power.

I get this question asked a lot.
If you’re building an off-road buggy of sorts from scratch, a LS should giviin a strong consideration for many factors. Decent reliable power, more compact meaning lower hood line, .. But if you already have a 6cy Jeep platform already there, a 4.6/4.7 stroker with a good cylinder head and Intake/exhaust, You’ll be so close to the LS numbers that to me it doesn’t make sense in both finances and labor to do the swap over for most people.
