First stroker build

Hello I am new to this forumn. I’ve always wanted a jeep stroker and I’m getting close to finally getting to do one. I’m new to building motors. I’m honestly not very knowledgeable about this stuff but I have plenty of people around willing to help me through the work. But I want to learn how to do it on my own. I’m overhauling a 4.0 right now( first time tearing apart a motor). As soon as I’m done with that one I have another 4.0 in my 99 wrangler I plan on doing a stoker kit in. I don’t completely understand the quench gaps or know how high of a compression ratio I want to run. I’m looking for advice on what I should buy for doing this whole thing. For context I live at an elevation of about 5200 feet. Most of my driving will be a this elevation. I will do a decent amount of wheeling up to 10100 feet of elevation. But majority highway driving and around my area. My job involves a lot of driving on canal dirt roads all day. I live in Utah about an hour away from cleggs so I’ve been eyeing down their stage 2 stroker kit to go along with their stage 1.5 cam. I don’t know if this is the right combination for what I’m doing. I’m open to anything. If that can is pretty aggressive I can go lower but I don’t know how to figure out what can I want. I’m open to going more aggressive if it can last a while. I just want a motor that can be reliable and last 50k more miles would be awesome if not more. The jeep currently has 197k miles. If the 9.3 compression ratio means I give up a lot of reliability then I don’t have to run that high. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I see Russ on here has his own products and I am completely open do buying whatever everyone recommends. Thank you in advance

The Clegg Stage 2 kit with a 9.3:1 compression ratio is a good choice. At your elevation, you could run the engine on catpiss and it wouldn't detonate.

For your type of dxriving you'll want as much low/medium rpm torque as possible. If you're building a '99 block that has a cam retaining plate instead of the earlier style recessed bolt with thrust pin/spring, your best choice of cam would be the 163-201-5. With 0.45" of valve lift you could reuse the stock valve springs/retainers/keepers. Unless you have a ported head, a higher valve lift won't gain you anything.

That cam looks like it’s been discontinued but the low to mid range profile does sound like what I would want. Is there a different cam still produced that I could use that’s similar. I’d be willing to change my springs to get it to work if I need to. Just don’t want to sacrifice a whole lot of reliability. It would obviously be pretty fun to make more power. The only thing I’m concerned of is I don’t know how to do tuning

More than happy to offer some guidance and assistance in putting together a stroker kit for you.

Unfortunately, this time the late model thrust plate style 163 cams are unavailable but I do have an equivalent in the earlier style pin and spring

I offer custom Pistons to help with obtaining the optimal quench along with choices in various dish volumes
