It seems the Durabond / Clevite bearings need some 'massaging' after installation with a deburring tool.

Surprised no one has responded to this.. seems like good information.. and a possible problem some people have been running into?

I wonder if cam bearings can be ordered from the dealer at a resonable price?

Jeep part numbers:

J3205711: 1972(4.2)-1998:
4636985AB: 1999-2002; oiling groove in #1 bearing for later camshaft with thrust plate
J3208985: .010" Over sized; not sure if these are really oversized(OD) or undersized(ID)

Most aftermarket Jeep 4.0L bearings are made by Durabond. If there is a heart stamped on the back side its Durabond. That includes Clevites. ACL doesn't make an aluminum bearing for our engine.

Both of those numbers now go to 5174428AA which can be had for $53.20 through Wyckoff Chrysler

That is a chin scratcher!???, in the IH circles the OE bearings are notorious for flaking apart, and the "ONLY!" replacement is the DURABOND???, all others are to be avoided.

I wonder if the install tool, or installer? may have something to do with it??, my dad's tool is a SnapOn, and it's a POS!, mine is a DURABOND and it's far superior to the SnapOn, and some guys don't have the word "fineness" in their vocabulary!, all they know is a bigger hammer!
