I have a running 4.2 and 4.0

Post by zr2yz125 »

Hello all, new to the stroker community here...

I have a '74 258 motor (with T14 and D20) that runs. I'm going to get a running '97 4.0 complete with ECM this weekend from a wrecked vehicle. My son and I are getting ready to start a stroker project for our '95 YJ. The YJ runs and has a 2.5 in it.

I'm assuming these 2 motors will make for a good stroker? I haven't read anything to the contrary...

I've been searching the site here, what a great resource!

Besides the ECM and engine harness is there anything else I should get from the donor vehicle? I was going to grab the air filter/intake plumbing as well.

If there are any threads that you can point me in the direction of that would be of help, I would apprecite it.

Thanks!

You could use the 4.2 crankshaft together with the 4.0 rods and Russ Pottenger supplied custom pistons.
In addition to the ECU and engine harness, you'll need the fuel lines and the fuel pump/regulator assembly from the '97 as this has a returnless fuel system.
